Just north of Lahaina sits Ka'anapali Resort chosen as the site of Maui's first master-planned resort for its four miles of superb gold-sand beach. The resort includes luxury condos, six hotels, 36 holes of world-class golf, tennis courts, a shopping mall and gourmet restaurants. At the northern tip lies Pu'u Keka'a or Black Rock, considered one of the best snorkeling spots on Maui.
For those who wish to avoid the drive over from Kahului's main airport, air service is available into the Kapalua-West Maui Airport, situated just north of the Resort.
Ka’anapali is seen by many as a dream resort destination and is often viewed by many Mainlanders as the ideal location for their second home. Bordered by the fun town of Lahaina and the little sleeper communities of Napili, Kahana and Honokawai, Ka’anapali is a planned resort and, as such, offers everything a resort enthusiast could possibly want.
Studio condo units can be purchased starting at around $400,000 while luxury units in oceanfront complexes command as high as $5+ million. Homes in the Ka’anapali area start in the $1.5 million range and top out at the exclusive Kai Ala subdivision where six private estate sites are located behind locked gates. These luxury estates are marketed in the $15 - $25 million range.
Situated between Lahaina to the south and Kapalua further up the coast, Ka'anapali has the best of both worlds in regards to weather, with temperatures staying more moderate during the summer and receiving more sun in the winter months. The average daily temperature is about 82 degrees in summer and 75 degrees during the winter season. Nights are around 10 degrees cooler than days.
At four miles long, this golden sand beach, stretches the entire length of Ka'anapali Resort. Paved walk-ways link the path that leads past hotels and restaurants. Swimming is especially good here in the summer when the water is calm and clear. World-famous Black Rock at the northern tip is renowned for its excellent snorkeling. Black Rock is considered sacred by Hawaiians who believe that the spirits of warriors leave the earth to meet their ancestors by leaping from this rock.
Ka'anapali is served by the Lahaina school district. Please see Lahaina Community Information for further information on schools.
