Kapalua sits at the north-western tip of Maui, surrounded by silver-green fields of pineapple, lush green golf courses and some of the best beaches on Maui. Development began in 1975 by Colin Cameron, one of the heirs to the Maui Land and Pineapple Company. Today this luxury resort includes a half-dozen upscale condominium communities, two tennis centers, an art center, a golf academy and three champion golf-courses.
Kapalua is home to the nationally broadcast Mercedes Championship golf tournament. Kapalua also hosts the annual Kapalua Wine and Food Festival where chefs from some of Maui's most prestigious restaurants showcase their culinary arts coupled with select wines from around the world.
Located north of Kaanapali, Kapalua is considered a slice of heaven for the avid golfer. The homes and condos in this area are luxurious and offer high-end resort living for the discriminating buyer.
Homes in the Kapalua area generally start around the $3 million dollar range and occasionally the oceanfront mega-mansion will become available in excess of $15 - $20 million. Condos can range from $500,000 to almost $10 million at the new The Residences at Kapalua Bay.
The Residences at Kapalua Bay, currently under construction and located on Maui’s world famous beach – Kapalua Bay, is comprised of just 84 three and four bedroom condominiums in four low rise clusters. The décor will reflect a classic Hawaiian sense of place and all units will have panoramic ocean views; views of Lanai, Molokai and the dramatic Maui sunsets. Amenities are scheduled to include such services as a personal concierge, garage parking, 24 hour security, private elevator access and membership into The Kapalua Club with access to The Beach Club, The Spa, The Bay Club Restaurant and golf privileges at The Plantation and Bay courses.
Like the rest of Maui, the weather in Kapalua is some of the most wonderful to be found in the world. The average daily temperature is about 78 degrees in summer and during winter averages 72 degrees. Kapalua receives a little more rain than Ka'anapali or Lahaina, but, except for the winter when storms can blanket Maui island-side, this mostly falls in a gentle mist and in the summer can be rather refreshing.
This perfect crescent bay is one of Maui's best beaches. Lava outcroppings on both sides of the bay's entrance protect it from strong winds and currents, making it an excellent place to begin the adventure of snorkeling.
Just north of Kapalua Bay is the somewhat wild and beautiful Fleming Beach. This long wide beach, surrounded by Ironwood trees, which provide great shade, has many facilities including restrooms, showers, picnic tables and barbecue grills.
